Hockey game on today between USA and Canada... wow... I'm not a hockey fan but have been watching them in the Olympics and love it.  I guess I'll be waving my Canadian flag... *(s)...

Sad news for Marie Osmond yesterday with the death of her 18 year old son. He had been suffering from depression. I cannot imagine how painful it is to lose a child.  It was bad enough when my beloved doggie Wilbur passed away.  I miss him every single day.  :-((  My thoughts are with Marie and her family.

On the brink of having her Olympic dream come true, Canadian figure skater Joannie Rochette received tragic news. Her mother, Therese, had suddenly passed away.
Wonderful Celine Dion rang to console her ...  said she also had to perform on the day her father died.. and she knew how Joannie was feeling. She sent her flowers as well as the call.   What a great gesture by Celine. I knew she was classy.  !!!   Her voice is the most beautiful in the whole world.

Well done Canadian ladies hockey team... gold medal... against the USA girls.  It was such a good game, fast and furious.  They were all so "bulked" up with padding and whatever it was even difficult to see who was under all that stuff.   Only a few more days left of the Olympic games.... wow!!! has that gone fast.

Still feeding our deer... lots more produce from the supermarket today...  cutting it up, carting it out there in bucket loads .. its quite a process ....  and this afternoon I was wishing I had a wonderful fancy digital camera with a super duper telescopic lens on it because there was a deer looking up at the woodpecker in the tree and the squirrel close by ... I could have got all three of them in a gorgeous photo.  Oh well... I'll keep buying those lottery tickets and if I win ... a new camera will be first on my list.
Lydia Lassila - gold medalist for Australia last night ... aerialist.   Good heavens I think they all deserve a gold medal for flying so high and doing all those twists and turns and landing on their feet.  Incredible is not a big enough word for these girls.   I'm waving my Aussie flag today.. *(s)...  and I'm enjoying the Canadian hockey team.  It's been very exciting ......

Sven Kramer is perhaps the most famous athlete in the Netherlands, so you can imagine the reaction when he was disqualified from the men's 10,000-metre speed-skating race at the Vancouver Olympics.
Kramer, a gold medallist in the 5,000-metre race, was given the wrong instructions by his coach and did not switch lanes at the appropriate time. He won the race, but lost the gold medal on the technical error.

This was so sad...all that hard work for many years.  His coach held up a sign for him to change lanes and it wasn't necessary.  He went onto the wrong area.  He was disqualified.  He was so upset.  I don't think the coach will get another job ... it was an incredibly stupid action on his part.

Hockey watching.... something I don't usually do here in Canada.  They all seem to be hockey mad ... *(s).... but the Olympic games has been great competition with USA and Canada the other night and tonight Canada versus Germany ....  I hope team Canada get to the gold.  It sure is fast and these old Aussie eyes can't keep up with where the puck goes to.   It flies around so quickly I can't my focus on it  ~~~~~   I hope you all are enjoying the Games and that your country is doing well.

A desktop I made today... I had so much fun doing the background.  I'm planning a whole bunch of them for my website and the backgrounds are regal, romantic and rich....

I love the shabby chic, vintage, grunge look...  anyway click on the image here to see it full size (for larger computer screens) .. it looks great...  and save it from there or "set as background".

We've had some lovely birds lately come visit our yard.  The woodpeckers are enthralled with the suet ball I've got hanging from a few branches and the little chickadees never stop their sweet sounds.

Bright sunny day today but oh so cold.   Deer have been fed and there's still some on the ice for them to gobble up tomorrow.  Have to buy some more bird seed on Wednesday.  It sure doesn't take them long to go through it.

I'm looking forward to seeing the green lawn appear again soon.  To have my outdoor furniture up on the deck, with a nice cup of tea on the table and my swing chair there.  It's a lovely shady spot to finish off the day sitting out there with nothing else to do but read a good book or just enjoy the scenery... and have a drink of course.  And I certainly will be riding my bike again this spring and summer. It was great last season. I loved it.

A cold day here in northern B.C. today.  I've been outside and shovelled some of the frozen veggies that the deer haven't got to yet.  It all becomes one solid mass overnight and actually in a few moments when the temperatures are down so low.   The deer were waiting for me of course... and I love seeing them come running across the field to get to the corn I have in the container.

We've been busy watching the Olympic games and its been very exciting.  I love the bobsled ... or bob sleigh I saw them refer to it yesterday.   I went online to see how much one cost ... !!!!!!!!!!    two man $150,000 and those funny weird little flat contraptions they jump onto in the skeleton races ... which are run in the luge and bobsled area...  are worth $7,000.  They look like nothing more than a flat bit of metal with two pieces to rest your feet on and they have pipes on the bottom instead of blades.   Yikes...!!!   And I found out that several of the competitors are already millionaires. A young snowboarder in particular from the USA.

The time is going quickly and it won't be long before they have the closing ceremony .... where do these weeks and months go to so fast.  I can't keep up.   Getting older by the moment.  *(s)

Click on this little cutie to see her up close and beautiful.   I'm amazed at their back feet. Their heels don't touch the ground and they remind me so much of ballet dancers gliding around on tippy toes.

We had a whole bunch of them yesterday and the guy from the supermarket rang to tell us they had food for us so over we went and came back with big bags of fruit and vegetables.

The young girl one ... (in the photo) ... often gets pushed back by the boys who think everyone has to do what they tell them ...  she often ends up back in the field behind the fence so when the boys have gone and she comes back I make a special trip out to give her the corn so she doesn't miss out.

Two little squirrels jumping around the trees and from one bird feeder to the other ... and a gorgeous black and white woodpecker visited too.   It's quite a menagerie out there in the snow...  *(s)

I don't think Tiger's speech today did anything to change my mind about him.  It was a miss mash of other things unrelated to the disgrace and despair he's caused his family, his friends and his company.  Standing there saying he was sorry ....  it all was so contrived and staged.  Looking up at the camera at crucial moments, then the obligatory hug of his mother sitting in the front row... at the end of the speech.  No questions asked by anyone.   He mentioned that he didn't think it was fair that the press had targeted his children and wife ... well he sure should have thought about that and its implications when he was doing what he was doing with anything that breathed.  Cheating once with one woman ... maybe... maybe.... I could forgive him ... but no forgiveness for doing it with the nearly twenty mistresses.  What a scumbag.  His little child is only two years old .. and he was cheating well before and during the birth of that one.

The whole country came to a standstill to watch his speech... they had all stations on standby to break into regular programming.  Unbelievable.  What gets me is that these people can't stand up and make a speech from their heart without it being scripted and pre planned.  How difficult is it to be there and simply say I'm so sorry to everyone involved.  I simply don't believe the sex addiction thing is even reality.  One moment he spoke of his addiction then next he said his money and lifestyle afforded him the opportunities.  Did he mean then that if he didn't have the money that he wouldn't have the addiction.   Hog wash!!!!!!   Oh well....  I can't see a happy ending for the marriage. She's been too hurt for too long and what wife would go to see if her husband was okay after the car crash carrying a golf club ... so she could bash in the back window when he's sitting in the front.  He denied she was attacking him.   Who is he kidding....

A big beautiful moose crossing the highway up in the woods of British Columbia yesterday.  My hubby took the photo from the cab of the logging truck he was in.  I would have loved to have seen it.  Click on the image to see it larger .....

I've been enjoying watching the Olympic games on the telly.   Lots of excitement and falls in the snow ... by golly I think they all need medals just for being there.  They make it look easy but I was astounded to hear that the Norwegian team had "22 wax technicians" .... those are the guys who just put wax on the skis........ I couldn't believe that.   *(s).....  it seemed so funny ....  heavens knows who else they all have on their teams .... for just doing one job.... probably per person.... Anyway I'm off to watch some more.

Hey don't forget I've got some new goodies at my website.
Very pretty and gorgeous images I've called "Sentimentals".
They are very popular so hop over and check them out ...
100 of them in the bundle...

As I watch the Olympics today I got to thinking that there isn't an ugly competitor in the whole collection.  Of course there isn't.   Sponsors would go for all the pretty faces in case they won and would then promote their product.  All the girls in the skating and in the mogul and other events were very attractive.  Even the guys had such good looks it all seemed a bit "staged".

I guess when money is the main objective these days old fashioned plain looks go right out the window.... countries and companies are only interested in the profit.  Who would buy a magazine with a gold medal winner on the cover if they were ugly.  Such a shame I think.  I can remember years ago when I was younger and watched the games there were very large, manly type Russian girls competing.... but that's not the case now.    Oh well.. !!   good luck to everyone ....  I have some Aussies coming up this evening in some events so I'm looking forward to that.

A stunning new visitor to our yard this afternoon. He came with the girls.  *(s)....  We hadn't seen him before .. unless he's grown his antlers this year.... he was absolutely gorgeous.  You can click on the image to see him so much larger.

The show I was watching on the telly the other night explained that if they break off an antler ... they feel lopsided which is completely understandable... I'm sure I'd feel lopsided too with only one of those great things sticking out of my forehead.  So they try and dislodge and get rid of the remaining one.  Then its back to being just an ordinary bloke in the herd.   His leadership qualities have gone so he's not important any more.  I guess another guy takes over .......  I'd love him no matter whether he had antlers or not...  *(s)

INDIANAPOLIS — Hoosier lottery players have been digging through their trash, scouring their cars and bringing fistfuls of old tickets, some in shoeboxes, to an Indianapolis store, hoping they would find the winning — but unclaimed — $2.5 million jackpot ticket.
But time ran out Friday as the 5 p.m. deadline for cashing in the winning Hoosier Lotto ticket came and went with no one coming forward.

Oh dear isn't this awful.  Makes you wonder what could happen for someone not to claim a lottery ticket.  Lost it, maybe its still in their house, maybe in a handbag that was stolen or put on the roof of a car and then you drive away leaving it to fall, maybe the buyer of the ticket died, maybe it was in the pocket of a coat taken to the cleaners.  The possibilites are endless when you think about them.  Did the dog chew it up, did the kids rip it to pieces or just toss it away.  Maybe the ticket owner forgot he bought it.  Was it in a house fire and zizzled to pieces, did someone buy it for someone else's birthday ... and the recipient thought what the heck I never win anything and tossed it or just plain forgot about it.   Maybe it was in a car accident and the vehicle got totalled and then wrecked in the wreckers yard.  LOL ......  was it dropped behind a cupboard or fell off the top of the fridge.  I'd never find it if that happened.  Gosh one could write a book about the events leading up to the "non existent" lottery ticket and why nobody claimed the money.  How sad ... especially in these times of economic crisis for so many ....................
What a spectacular opening ceremony of the winter Olympics. Gosh if you missed it try and see it .....  I'm still amazed at how they did everything.  Stunning whales swimming through the floor  *(s) ....... a huge big white bear .... It was like the movie Avatar.  Things coming and going in all directions and you didn't even realize what was happening.  A touching one minute silence for the death of one of the competitors earlier today.... seeing the teams come into the stadium.... I watched for my Aussies....  loved every countries outfits and it was all so majestic and winter like.  It was like we were all sitting on the top of a mountain looking down on the snow and the sky.  Beautiful.    Now on with the games ...  I'm ready for the bobsled... I love that one..... Good luck Aussies... and now good luck Canadians.   *(s)
A men's luger from the country of Georgia died today after a crash during training,    This is so sad.   It's already cast a shadow on the winter Olympics.  He was only 21 years old.  It just came on our news as we were watching the Olympic flame heading around Vancouver and then to the stadium.  I knew when I saw how horrible the accident was that he could not possibly survive.

I love watching the luge.... they push, and run and then jump in and zoom around the course at speeds equal to driving a truck.  Sadly Nodar Kumaritashvili never got the chance to compete....  the games do not start till this evening.   Oh dear!!!  so sad.

Valentine's Day this weekend... It was the day I arrived in Canada from Australia eleven years ago.  I had left Oz on Valentines Day ... with my dog Wilbur and my suitcases which contained some clothes, my quilts, old photographs, and some treasures I couldn't live without which included my lovely silver sugar bowl.  I'm still surprised that it made it through customs ...  (big round metal object) .... through the scanners or whatever.   I have asked my Brian to not spend money on a pretty card or gift but instead get me some sunflower seeds for the squirrel and birds.

I bet there are millions and millions of flowers being purchased this year even with a recession flowers still seem to be the appropriate gift.   Maybe some diamond rings or bracelets from wealthy lovers ... !!!!!   Or some lucky girls might even get a new car or a holiday to paradise. Who knows.   But I think most of us will get little hand written cards made by children and grand children....  which of course means more than any expensive gift.

Click on the pretty lady card if you wish to save it... It will come up larger original size.

Never can have too many cards... and this one in particular would suit many occasions.

Gosh lots of snow happening back east in the United States.  They will all imagine they are living in Canada I think.  *(s).....  ours is melting a bit which is good.  My little deer friends arrived again early this morning and got some cracked corn and carrots.   Spoiling them I am.  But what the heck.  I love seeing them each day and the little girl one seems to always be shunted back into the field and pushed away by the bigger boy ones.   So she got some special treatment today when she returned on her own.  I saw her coming and made sure she got lots to eat.  I told my Brian today too... that instead of a pretty card and flowers or whatever for Valentines day all I wanted was more deer food or some sunflower seeds for the squirrels and woodpeckers...   It's nice to know I can help them .........

That horrible shock jock Howard Stern wants 100 million dollars for the job of judge (taking over from Simon Cowell) at American Idol. His radio job contract is up for renewal at the end of the year ... he got 500 million for that one. Good heavens!!!!! It seems that being rude is a moneymaking career. Whether you spout obsenities each day on the air waves or break the hearts and dreams of "singers" on Idol ..... the nastier you are the more you get paid. What is the world coming to. Gosh I find that deplorable ....

One Year and Forty Acres ... a great little program from Saskatchewan, Canada.  It highlights the animals and birds on the property of the photographer.  I have seen all three episodes so far and am loving it.  I've learned a lot about the birds in our yard and the deer habits ..........   I think I shall write to him and tell him what a great show it is.   If you click on the title it will take you to a little video of it....
I made some yummy banana muffins today... haven't done that in ages.  We were given heaps of lovely bananas so I blended about 5, with some orange juice, some eggs, whole wheat flour, vanilla, and added lots of chopped up almonds, cinnamon and some allbran.  All very healthy. No sugar, no milk.....  yummy!
There's nothing nicer than a hot cup of tea whilst you watch  your telly and having a delicious muffin on the plate beside you.  *(s).....

Superbowl over with for another year.... space shuttle got off finally after yesterday's delayed launch,  Tiger Woods wife supposedly coming back to him ... (why oh why oh why)  ... is anyone's guess.  It certainly wouldn't be for the money.  Hasn't she been humiliated enough.   Michael Jackson's doctor has finally been charged with a crime over his death.  Jennifer Aniston had a birthday celebration and told Brad Pitt she doesn't want him back ....  can't really believe that..... but who knows.  Celebrities seem to swap partners at the drop of a hat.  Well time for me to take a short nap. Got up early and went over to the supermarket and got more food for our deers...  sweet little things gobbled the last lot up in one day.  There were about 22 piles of food out on the ice and snow for them.

Sunday, February 7, 2010

I hope your Superbowl team won.  *(s).....   I've never sure why it all starts so late in the day.  Back home in Oz our grand final footie day begins about 11 a.m. with a pre match then the big game begins about 2.30 p.m.... which makes it a whole lot easier for the people who drink too much to get a better recovery time ready for work on Monday.  But then again... most of the die hard footie fans end up taking a few extra days off in the week to continue celebrating if their team won.  I don't understand the American game at all...  and I much prefer our rough and tumble Aussie matches ....   good fun .....
I shared some stationery and cards this morning in my group "Affectionate Affair" which you are very welcome to join.   You can find the link to it from my website..
This little easter bunny is much larger in real size so click on the image and save it from there. I guess Easter won't be all that far away.  I've seen the chocolate goodies already in our store ... even before Valentines Day is done.   I sure do miss not having yummy chocolate.  Being a diabetic is such a bore at times....

Saturday, February 6, 2010

gosh big storm across the eastern USA. Looks more like Canada ... :-) Space shuttle launches tomorrow early morning. I don't know that I'll be awake to see that one. I've always watched them since I came to Canada and we see the coverage of it all. I notice today as well that Obama again is on the "campaign trail" spouting more stuff about the economy and frankly just bloviating as usual. Heavens above I do not like that man. He seems to toss everyone under the proverbial bus when stuff goes wrong and doesn't seem to take responsibility for instigating things... unless the outcome is one he desires.
I went for a walk this afternoon over to our library in town and was surprised to see so many cars about. The senior citizens place must have had some "do" there because that was packed... and the ice skating rink was holding skating trials for hockey teams... vehicles everywhere and lots of slushy and mushy snow. Our friend in Vancouver sent us a photo today taken from his window of the guy next door mowing his lawn. Good golly miss molly.. that's unheard of at this
time of year. And the caribou we saw yesterday must have their clocks messed up as well to be down this low from the mountains. The flowers in the park won't be too far away from blooming if this mild weather keeps up. Not good for the winter Olympics... *(s)

a pretty card to add to your collection....
click on the image to see it larger and save it from there.

Just had a call from a friend to tell us there were caribou in the field alongside the highway just out of our town so we hopped in our truck and went to see them. They don't usually come down this low ... so it's quite a sight to see them here. I loved them. So gorgeous .... they actually had collars around their necks so they are obviously being tracked from their home territory. Got some photos - here they are walking through the snow....

Such a sweet little bird image with a pretty pink rose. I like this one a lot. I'm certainly into birds, and birdhouses, and am looking forward to the warmer weather so I can sit out on my deck on the swing seat and enjoy a nice cup of tea and watch the birds coming for food. I hope the hummingbirds return this year. They are quite wonderful to watch and don't seem scared one bit about landing on your shoulder.
Weird news again today.... a little girl aged 11 gave birth to a baby girl ... she's but a baby herself .... ten when she got pregnant. Then there was an earthquake up off the northern Californian area. That's not all that far from us up on the edge of British Columbia. We had a small one a while back ...
And of course old Tiger Woods.. in deeper trouble it seems ... another mistress (ex porn star) claims he said he loved her. What a creep he is .... Had everything in the world ... beautiful wife, children, money, mansions, and celebrity... now he's nothing more than a dirty old man and a real bad guy. Oh well!!!! just proves that all that money can't bring you happiness.

A newspaper I just picked up at our library. It's called NorthWord and on the front was a gorgeous photo of a moose. Not sure if its a girl or a boy ... *(s)... but a wonderful picture titled "Get out of bed, sleepy head - Spring will be here any minute." Photo by Paul Glover.
It has some great articles in it ... so check it out if you would like to know more about the area in which I live...
Strange happenings here in British Columbia for the 2010 Winter Olympics. It's been the warmest January down south in Vancouver for many years so their snow is melting. Trucks are now carting it from a distance of 3 hours away ... in the hope that they will have enough for the games. So weird.... *(s).... they are spending the money usually allocated for carting it away in case there is too much. Funny thing to be driving a truck loaded with snow .... if the day heated up you'd be driving a truck full of nothing... *(s)......
